Earlier this month with all the epi-panic-isolation-orders-stay-home edicts, the thought went through my head one sleepless night (and haven't we all had
those this month) that if I should contract the virus and leave everything behind, what quilt would I most regret not having made/finished. Morbid, I know, but ... And the answer was my three-year-old grandson's big-boy bed quilt. So, three weeks later, start to finish, here it is, not the most original of design or the fanciest, but after all it's going to a rough and tumble three year old!
The sun broke through around 8:30 this morning and the temperatures were above freezing!

It was such a nice morning that we took a little walkabout on the property. Want to come along?
Can you tell not much is in bloom besides the daffs?!!
But then there's this - overwintered in our little sunroom, looking better than it did all last summer - go figure!
And thus endeth April, and good riddance I say. And on with the bright new blossoms of May!

Well, the daff's do show Spring is just about there! I'm sure your grandson will love that special quilt! Any 3-yr. old would! Now with that goal completed, you can work on whatever you choose. I really enjoyed your little walkabout. ---"Love"

Love the walk around your home. You have pansies. I think this is maybe the forst year ever? I did not have pansies. Your daffs are happy and cheery--abd are those peonies?

Interesting process about what to work on. I'm afraid at times my mind can go to places like that too. But I'm so glad you got your grandson's big bed quilt done. It's fun with all the kitties. Enjoyed the walk about and your red barn in the background.
A great use of the busy cat print. Interestiseeng the different parts of the print scattered round the quilt.

The quilt is gorgeous. Big Boy will love it. We are all ready to put this month behind us, which is ordinarily one of my favorites. You certainly have made the best of it and turned out some beautiful work. I loved the walk around your place.

Yes, you DID have a morbid thought there! But it was motivation to finish your grandson's quilt, and that's fantastic! It's the perfect quilt for a rough-and-tumble boy. He's gonna love it. Thanks for the little stroll around your property. I envy you all that space, though I'm sure it makes extra summertime work with mowing and gardening. The grass is always greener... Beautiful daffodils, and the red flower - geranium? It's lovely to see color, and I'm grateful for that year 'round in Florida. Right now I have the prettiest purple blooms on a Princess plant. I hope your May is abundantly beautiful and less isolated. We're seeing a few changes here, but none that will impact us. Who wants to go to a community pool and practice social distancing in and out of the water?! Not me.
I think the entire country is ready to put that month behind us. It feels like we're the subjects of a massive social experiment to see just how much control can be exerted over the serfs before they rise up in revolt. I'm thankful we're in a very rural and fairly isolated area.
It's a terrific quilt, great finish. I've had similar morbid thoughts for sure. I'm about to be a grand mother for the first time, and made a baby girl quilt, and the thought occured to me to quick make a baby boy quilt, so that if something happens.... there are two baby quilts from me, in the family, one for each sex to be shared around. I think it's natural to have these morbid - or practical?? - thoughts. Anyway, great finish and your surroundings are just beautiful. The flowers, signs of spring, and you can just feel the fresh air from your photos!
I've had the same feeling of need to finish some quilts that are just blocks at the moment for the same reason.
Acting on these thoughts, morbid though they be, is actually very freeing in the end. The project is finished and off your mind and heart, and you can feel re-energized to work on other less important projects.
