Another Week, Another Squirrel

What I should be doing ...

What's actually happening in my sewing room ...

Leading to this ...

Loving these rainbow-sherbet rail blocks!  Hard to put them down and concentrate on finishing the ditch quilting on April in Paris. Thinking maybe three columns each two blocks wide as shown and separated by fairly wide sashing strips.  Of what color though?

I haven't posted an update of our homegrown pineapple plant in awhile.  Here's what it looks like now.  The actual size of the fruit is 6-7 inches long.  Larger than I would have expected.  This is a three-year-old plant.  We're anxiously awaiting its ripening.  Have no idea how much longer that might take.

Barely visible in the photo but right below the base of the fruit another shoot is growing off to the right.  Wondering if that will eventually produce another fruit.  Have you tried growing a pineapple at home?  How long did it take to ripen?  Did the plant ever produce a second fruit?  Inquiring minds would love to know!

I LOVE those blocks - especially the orange.

I have a pineapple growing in my pineapple garden too. Mine is about 5-6" tall. They are suppose to take 9 months to mature. Once you have one fruit, it is common to get lots of pups that will produce pineapples much faster than the initial investment of several years.

Never have grown a pineapple. Mine come directly from the grocery store. 🍍🍍 Your title made me smile as I picture you off chasing another squirrel. Many of us would be meeting up in the same park.

I love the rainbow blocks. Difficult to choose a color for the sashing strips. Nice pineapple.

Well, would you look at that! A pineapple! :-)
Sometimes you just have to go with what feels right....and sewing your orange blocks is definitely right! Love that Singer too!

Amazing pineapple! Now you awakened my taste buds:)
Love the sherbet rail blocks....very different. I am sure they are addictive. How about grey for setting between the rows, or deep blue for the ocean?

Sometimes you just gotta go with what is capturing your interest! Love seeing the bright blocks come together.:) How cool is that pineapple!! Hope it tastes fabulous when it finally ripens!

Wow that is very cool, growing your own pineapple. The thought never occurred to me! Symbol of hospitality and one of my favorite fruits. It seems to be in season here in Japan at the moment though I’m guessing they are imported?

I can see why you went chasing that squirrel.

Never grown a pineapple here but eaten several my dad has grown in Florida. Hope yours is as delicious.

Oh my! Such great things here! First, I didn't know you have an old Singer. It looks SO familiar! In fact, I think it's exactly like the one my mother had, that I learned to sew on. Do you make it "go" by pressing your right thigh against a bar? Second, I love what you're making on that machine, and my advice is NO sashing! Make it completely bright and modern and leave out sashing. Connect one block to another, without even matching them, if you wish. It will make such a stunning quilt. And that pineapple is so impressive! Supposedly they're easy to grow here in Florida, but I've never tried it, so can offer no advice. But, I can see my neighbor's pineapple growing in a large outdoor barrel, and it's looking good. Hope that when yours ripens it will be juicy and sweet. Be sure to let us know.

Love the rainbow sherbet rails. I am always drawn to how black makes the color of batiks pop, but if you want a brighter look, you could use a yellow.
What fun to grow pineapple. Have never done so, but in stores they are often still in need of ripening time, so I wonder if it is common to pick before fully ripe and then ripen on the counter, or if that is just for shipping purposes. I guess you can always Google it. :)

Wow! Your pineapple has really grown! It's amazing! Wonderful colors in your rail blocks. I'd be tempted to use black for the sashing strips but any color you choose will be perfect :)

Are there really any "shoulds" in quilting? I love getting sidetracked and working on something totally new! Love those solids!
