Winter Solstice

Today was clear and sunny, and our latest dusting of snow has disappeared.  The five little Christmas table toppers were completed over the weekend, three have already been gifted, the remaining two will be on their way Christmas Day.  A few photos:

All are minimally machine quilted, stitch in the ditch, just enough to hold them together.  So many project, so little time ...

This was a fun little project that used up a lot of 3-1/2 inch scrappy pieces.

Today is the winter solstice and I've been busy working on my monthly mini, aka Janet's Baggie Challenge.  And I'll leave you with two burning questions:  Is blue a neutral?  and When your quilt screams "NO" do you listen?

Those will make such nice gifts. Yes, so little time!

Your table toppers are all beautiful. Favourites would be second and third pictures. Yes, blue is a neutral. Definitively in my book anyway. When my quilts talk, I do listen because I hate nagging voices, lol. ;^)

Great work! And occasionally blue does work as a neutral, depends on what it's resting beside! And yes, I do listen when my quilt screams 'no'. I've had to use the seam ripper way too many times to tune out that particular conversation!

What a fun lineup of holiday table toppers! You have been very productive.
I say any color is a neutral if that is how you use it. :)
Well, if a quilt screams at me, I figure it is important. So yes, I would listen.

Well haven't you been industrious! I know how it is to make multiples of something. Good for you to use scraps and make these pretty table toppers for others. Whew, right? :-) As for your questions, I wouldn't call blue a neutral, though it could be used consistently through a quilt design as a contrast to whatever design and/or focus colors you choose. And yes, you absolutely must listen to your conscience when it comes to designing/making a quilt. Whatever your gut tells you, there's a reason. The challenge for all of us who create is being in tune to that inner voice. Wishing you well with whatever quilt is giving you grief! Life's short, and we have too many quilts in our heads to let one of them sidetrack us! I hope your Christmas is merry, and blessed.

Your table toppers are wonderful and such sweet gifts. It was fun to see them all in different versions.
I think almost any color can be neutral depending on what it is paired with. When I quilt says NO I listen...
Merry Christmas!

Oh my! Not one, but five adorable monthly minis. You are amazing. And I say blue can certainly be a neutral! Merry Christmas!

The table toppers are great and very useful.

I have high winds here to greet the Solstice and Old Man Winter. Like to blew me over just now.

Blue is not a neutral, in my opinion, except perhaps for the very dark indigo or navy that looks black. However if you wish to have blue be a neutral, that is ok too, no quilt police here at the beach.

I don't think a quilt has ever rebelled on me, tho Silent Night has been banished for being ugly.

love

lizzy

Merry Christmas

What wonderful gifts. Everyone will enjoy them. It's like 5 monthly minis. Blue can definitely be a neutral. I made brown my mine!

Cute table toppers - anything festive is good this time of year. I definitely listen when a quilt tells me "no". I learned this lesson the hard way! (rip, rip)

Such pretty table toppers! Great job getting them all done. So much to do this time of year! I definitely think blue could be a neutral if red is considered one. Yes, when my quilts say no, I listen. There was I time or two I didn’t and it took a lot longer to put things right, so I try to listen at the first whisper now.

Freddie Moran said that red was a neutral, for her, so go for it! These are Beautiful!

I'm currently cutting from a bin of old Christmas fabrics that I collected ... perhaps 20 years ago? I recognize an angel fabric in my collection. It will be good to use up those fabrics.

Cute little table toppers and Christmastime gifts! It's fun to work on simple things every once in a while! I had a friend who used red as a neutral in one of her quilts so I guess blue works, too! I listen to when a quilt screams NO even if it takes a few passes before taking action. Looking forward to your Baggie Challenge!

Oh my goodness, you have been busy! I missed your post where you had started working on these so it was fun to come across them. Isn't it a great pattern? I'm certain that your recipients were thrilled. Happy New Year to you and yours!
