Behold, an Almost Rogue Amish mini from Lori's 2019 fall quilt-along, is finally well and truly finished! Binding added this morning after some hasty sparse big-stitch hand quilting last week before the grands arrived on Friday evening.
Most of the predicted storms never materialized and the kids were able to swim in the creek, climb the mountain on the other side, have their requested campfire with S-mores, and more importantly, keep the dog well exercised and totally exhausted by the time they left!
Seven-year-old version of King of the Mountain
the Energizer Bunny culprit!
At the other end of the house another Swiffer Box Quilt was in its early stages, designed from leftover orphan blocks, strips and squares, this time by our 9-year-old granddaughter. Guess I'll have my work cut out for me in the coming weeks, but that many leftover scrappy hunks I won't have to deal with later!
After the busy weekend, it was nice to walk around the property taking in the last of the summer flowers.
Interesting how the orange binding appears yellow where the sunlight hits.
We're still harvesting an abundance of summer squash, and the winter squashes are getting there. Something is attacking our few butternut squashes, most likely deer, but the Delicata, Carnival, and Spaghetti squash seem to be undisturbed so far. The roma tomatoes are getting there, we should harvest the first few by weeks end for our first tomato-basil pie of the season. The last of the green beans will likely disappear with dinner tonight. Fall is quickly approaching, my favorite season.

What fun you must have had with the little ones and the dog,...and the toys! So cute! While your little quilt is not in colors I ordinarily would have chosen, I must tell you, the little quilt really got my attention. It is beautiful! I love that the colors each sing out their own part. ---"Love"
Your Amish mini is a great finish to the month. Its colors are so August looking and blend so beautifully with your still-so-lovely summer annuals. But, I've got to say that I love best that you encourage your grands to design a quilt. I just know you are going to have fun with this one! I love it!
You mini is so bright and fun. I can't decide which picture I like best. They could be on a calendar, for sure. The energizer bunny looks like he's planning his next activity - no rest there. I love the idea of letting your granddaughter plan the orphan quilt.
Your garden AND your quilt are both beautiful!
Congratulations on this beautiful finish. I should have participate to her sew-along but life has very busy at that time. I can always make it now. Love your rendition of it. Your quilt talks Fall to me. A time when red and orange take over the greens. It very lovely. ;^)
How colorful and fun! Love it!
I love your little quilt! The colors are so pretty. I'll bet the pup was exhausted after all the activity. It was hard to find a dog in that pile!
Love those colors and how your beautiful flowers match! I don't think I've ever done a bright orange binding. It's the perfect choice. Love the dog, the stuffies, and your grandson. A sweet photo. Glad everyone had a fun time, even your pup.
Love your August mini. It looks so pretty against your beautiful flowers! What a great picture of your dog as King of the Mountain. You should enter a photo contest :) We've been harvesting lots of zucchini, cukes, and tomatoes. Even made a crustless tomato pie which was really good. Sounds like you enjoyed the visit with your grandkids!
OOoh love your version of the SAL. Great photos with the flowers and the fence.
I had to chuckle at the dog and toy pile. What a cute photo of your grandson.
Great finish....love the colorful binding. Sounds like a good trip/visit!
What a wonderful mini! It matches your flowers perfectly. Fall is my favorite season too and I hope we all get lots more quilting time. Enjoy your harvest and thanks for another great mini!
Your mini turned out so cute. I love that color combo. It looks great with your flowers too.
So many good things about this blog post! First, I love that you got to spend time with your grandchildren, an opportunity that many of us do not have. Second, your quilt is adorable! I love the bright range of colors in it. And styled against your flowers... well, it's all beautiful! I think it's wonderful that your granddaughter arranged a quilt for you to make that will use up so many sewing room leftovers. I need a child to come and do that at my house! Love the picture of your dog who is seemingly tolerant of the extra love he gets when the grandies are around. And the thought of a tomato-basil pie has my mouth watering. I took for granted the delicious fresh tomatoes we grew in Iowa, and now I miss them desperately. Even though times are tough, you (and I) have blessings to count.
What a beautiful quilt! Nice staging, too. Sounds like your summer garden was a success!
Yes, the two older grands have always been interested in both the sewing machines and quilting. The younger 7-year-old not at all! This little quilt will be a challenge but hopefully she will like the end result.
What a pretty mini, with your flowers. And what a paradise for your grand kids! Cute (and patient) dog too;). I love fall too. Enjoy your harvest!
Great colors in your Almost Rogue Amish! They remind me of the fading heat and sunshine of summer and the approaching cool, but darker autumn days. So nice to see your garden and hear about what veggies are still producing!
Love the quilt! I didn't make that one, even though I was tempted to. Your yard looks lovely! And it looks like a perfect place for grandkids and a dog to run and play.
I love the colors you used for your Almost Amish and the strong pattern they create.
I can't decide what your dog's expression is saying about the pile of stuffed animals on top of him/her. ;-)
