For my giveaway I've chosen a great book by Don Linn titled Sophisticated Stitches, Designs for Quilting, Applique, Sashiko & Embroidery. In this book Don shares 66 new stylized quilting motifs and a unique method for transferring a design to your quilting surface without the need to cut templates. I first learned about this method while participating in SewCalGal's Free Motion Quilt Challenge last year (link in sidebar to the right). Don Linn was our guest tutorial expert during the month of April 2012, and taught this design transfer method, which I've found to be very useful.
For the lucky winner I'll also include one or two of the vintage quilting magazines from my collection, most dating back to the 1980s and early 1990s. I'll be choosing these based upon your individual comments, so be sure to tell me something about what type of quilts you most love to create.

I've seen this book, and since doing his SewCalGal FMQ Challenge, I know I can transfer his motifs with ease!
I am a traditional quilter--love traditional patterns and repro fabrics. I do use novelty prints when I quilt for my grandkids, but usually still stick to traditional patterns. Oh, and I get a bit out of my box now and then and use some bright batiks!
Oh what a wonderful book! I'd love to win :*) FMQ is something I am determined to refine this year as I try to quilt up some flimsies that need to move out of my closet and into the world as real quilts!
I love fresh, bold designs in bright colors. I'm probably more traditional than modern, but I love the modern colors and simplicity. Also small quilts - too cute! Thanks for the great giveaway!

For some reason I tend to do complicated quilts. I really get into doing the intricate work. I am quilting most of my quilts with a machine quilter but I feel there isn't anything like a hand quilted quilt

I have never heard of Don Linn - this looks very interesting! I mostly make scrap quilts with leftovers from sewing for my grandchildren, or children's quilts.

I have Don Linns other books so would love to add this one. I tend to like bright, fresh quilts and am tending more towards a modern look. Am learning to use my longarm that hs not had the use it should have sincei bought it.

Sadly I have not worked hard on improving my FMQ. I have instead mostly done strait line or echo quilting of items. I love to learn of new and different ideas and styles.

I reckon I'm a modern quilter... I like using jelly rolls and other pre cuts. I am also doing a hand quilting (hexies) piece, but it is taking FOREVER :)
This looks like a wonderful book to have. Hand applique is what I really love to do, but that doesn't stop me from doing patchwork quilts as well. I really like to learn about all methods and try those that I find interesting.

This book looks great! I am just getting into the quilting part of quilting--mostly I have just completed tops! I prefer scrappy and vintage or modern quilts!
just describe one type??? uhhh I like lots of different things in quilts, I'm more contemporary I think, I like bold colors and graphic designs but I also like traditional looks of quilts, but may use more bright colors with it. Today I cut out fabrics that are black/white/ grey and yellow! yummy combination!!

I like traditional pieced quilts. But since I make lots of kid and teen quilts for charity I find that I am beginning to be drawn to more modern designs.

I usually make traditional quilts and recently I find myself drawn to applique.
I'm a follower. I wish my Babcia was a quilter so I would have some of her handiwork at my house. Unfortunately, she was too busy trying to keep her family fed and clothed and had very limited knowledge of English so she only mended.
I love the quilts of the past. Reproductions are a favorite. Right now I'm doing a reproduction of a 1930s kitty quilt for my grand-daughter. One of these days I'm going to get started on the Farmers Wife quilt!

My favorites are baby quilts and holiday items such as table toppers. I recently finished a Christmas wall hanging that also includes embroidery and it is my favorite of the things I've made.

I love to do anything that I do by hand. Quilting, Red Work of any color, applique, embroidery, or anything that can combine two or more of these techniques is even better. I love making doll quilts and other small quilts. And of course the are those that has some sort of history behind it from eras that have gone by, like Civil War, Circuit Rider, Victory Garden etc. I have even made a piece with Sashiko with my 11 yr.old son. It was the 1st time I tryed that. We had great fun and we gifted it to his father. I some times enjoy giving a pattern my own twist to make it my own or designing something all my own.

Hi I started quilting about 2 years ago. it seems that I really love the old tried and true block, and paper piecing makes me happy. I recently made a piano runner, my own design, I used paper piecing - the Pineapple block and the log cabin block. I did it in muted tans, browns, creams and white. I used the pinapple block for a pop of color - a print of soft green, pinks & blue. I loved the way it turned out. thanks for this giveaway.

That quilting technique sounds great. I've been trying to teach myself how to machine quilt my tops. I've been on a modern quilt making kick. I've also been using a lot of precut items.
