Party On!

COMMENTS FOR THIS GIVEAWAY DRAWING ARE NOW CLOSED.

Today's the day for the Quilter's Blog Hop Party with Give-A-Ways hosted by Quilting Gallery

Beat the Winter Blues - Quilters' Blog Hop Party
For my giveaway I've chosen a great book by Don Linn titled Sophisticated Stitches, Designs for Quilting, Applique, Sashiko & Embroidery.  In this book Don shares 66 new stylized quilting motifs and a unique method for transferring a design to your quilting surface without the need to cut templates.  I first learned about this method while participating in SewCalGal's Free Motion Quilt Challenge last year (link in sidebar to the right).  Don Linn was our guest tutorial expert during the month of April 2012, and taught this design transfer method, which I've found to be very useful.

For the lucky winner I'll also include one or two of the vintage quilting magazines from my collection, most dating back to the 1980s and early 1990s.  I'll be choosing these based upon your individual comments, so be sure to tell me something about what type of quilts you most love to create.

Please be sure that you're not a "no-reply blogger" before leaving your comment, or that you include your email address within your comment.  Followers of this blog, both new and long-standing, are welcome to leave a second comment.   This giveaway is open to anyone with a United States mailing address.
Giveaway will be open until March 14 at 8 p.m. PDT, and I'll announce the winner on March 15.
So, leave a comment (or two) and then head back over to Quilting Gallery and check out the rest of the party hopping blogs!

I don't usually follow blog hops, but it seems many of the blogs I normally follow are on this hop, so here I go signing up for another giveaway! : )
I've seen this book, and since doing his SewCalGal FMQ Challenge, I know I can transfer his motifs with ease!
I am a traditional quilter--love traditional patterns and repro fabrics. I do use novelty prints when I quilt for my grandkids, but usually still stick to traditional patterns. Oh, and I get a bit out of my box now and then and use some bright batiks!

Teresa in Music City said...

Oh what a wonderful book! I'd love to win :*) FMQ is something I am determined to refine this year as I try to quilt up some flimsies that need to move out of my closet and into the world as real quilts!

I love fresh, bold designs in bright colors. I'm probably more traditional than modern, but I love the modern colors and simplicity. Also small quilts - too cute! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Debbie said...

I like paper piecing and bright bold contemporary designs. thanks

Stephanie said...

The book would be very interesting, it haven't seen transfers yet.

MsMidge said...

I seriously need help with my FMQ'ing! I'm relatively new to quilting and LOVE free motion, but have no idea how to do better designs. I love modern, contemporary quilting - nice and bright! I'm participating in the hop too, so feel free to pop over :)

I did the FMQ Challenge with SewCalGal also and I enjoyed Don Linn's month. It would be great to win this book by him. Thanks for the chance. Also I like to make scrappy and traditional quilts.

Great book. I like modern quilts but a background in traditional.

I'm a follower. That book really interests me as I'm still new to quilting and always wondering what to put in the plain sections. I really love the 1930's style quilts as, I can remember my grandmother showing me her MIL's quilts and watching my grandma reproduce the styles from back then

Lately, I've been trying some blocks of the month, just trying something different. Quilting is the most challenging part for me. Nice giveaway! Would love to learn something out of my comfort zone!

Thanks for the great giveaway. I have joined a few FMQ Challenges but have still failed to master it. I love scrappy quilts and was a member of Quiltmaker Magazine's 2012 Scrap Squad. Hugs

For some reason I tend to do complicated quilts. I really get into doing the intricate work. I am quilting most of my quilts with a machine quilter but I feel there isn't anything like a hand quilted quilt

I love to do anything that I do by hand. Quilting, Red Work of any color, applique, embroidery, or anything that can combine two or more of these techniques is even better. I love making doll quilts and other small quilts. And of course the are those that has some sort of history behind it from eras that have gone by, like Civil War, Circuit Rider, Victory Garden etc. I have even made a piece with Sashiko with my 11 yr.old son. It was the 1st time I tryed that. We had great fun and we gifted it to his father. I some times enjoy giving a pattern my own twist to make it my own or designing something all my own.

Thank You for the chance to win such a great book and give away.

Sincerely,
Tricia

Hi I started quilting about 2 years ago. it seems that I really love the old tried and true block, and paper piecing makes me happy. I recently made a piano runner, my own design, I used paper piecing - the Pineapple block and the log cabin block. I did it in muted tans, browns, creams and white. I used the pinapple block for a pop of color - a print of soft green, pinks & blue. I loved the way it turned out. thanks for this giveaway.
