A Finish For Friday

This week has been one of many things, some exciting, others not so much.  On the exciting front, my sister and I have met through Ancestry and now Facebook a first cousin who we knew of but had lost track of over the years.  My sister had met her personally when they were quite young, however I had moved to the city by then and never met this cousin.  So, we are getting acquainted though separated by around 2,000 miles!

Then, there is this quilty finish.  The top I'd been calling 'Sherbet Jumble' is now a finished quilt, destined for our quilt ministry to be given to a young woman with a chronic serious health condition.

This was machine quilted, mostly with the even feed foot echoing the triangles, and free motion leaves and loops in the outer border.  A bit of the back:

This is just a tad smaller than a full queen size, and finished at about 73 x 86 inches.  A very cottage-shabby-chic look.  I hope the recipient will like it.

I had to try a few outside photos, of course!

On the downside a few days ago I awoke with more visual distortion than usual in my left eye.  I got an appointment with our local eye doctor the same day to rule out retina detachment.  Thankfully it wasn't that, but what I'm currently living with is a piece of the vitreous gel that lies in front of the retina that has separated and is now floating around my eye, along with more stringy 'floaters' than usual.  I can best describe it as trying to look through a constantly moving piece of those clear jellyfish you find washed up on a beach.  Fun, huh.  Threading a needle becomes almost comical.  The doctor said these pieces will typically dissolve/disappear in a few weeks.  Follow-up appointment in mid-August.  Getting old sure isn't for wimps, let me tell ya!

Off now to try stitching some easy puss-in-the-corner blocks.  What could possibly go wrong?

Happy quilting, camping, just sinking your bare feet into the green grass of summer, or whatever your weekend holds in store for you!
Faith over fear.

That is for sure a beautiful quilt! I love the border fabric too! Sorry about your eye. I guess we all are having our own problems. After dressing and making my bed this morning, I had a severe vertigo attack that took me down, where I stayed until almost 10 AM! I'm struggling to stay vertical now, but moving very slowly. Forgot to say, I love how you quilted your quilt too. ---"Love"

Your quilt is so lovely! Very soft and cozy looking. Glad you are getting some family bonding in. It probably feels good during these crazy days were having. Hope your eye problems do resolve themselves quickly. Got to be able to thread a needle for sanity's sake!:)

What a beautiful quilt for a young woman. The colors are soft and lovely. You added some simple but textural quilting pattern. I know she will love it. So sorry about your eye. Hopefully, it will disappear sooner than later and that needle will be back in focus. Interesting about finding a new first cousin. And yes, faith over fear.

Wonderful finish! The name suits it. I'm glad you showed how you quilted it because I have a similar one waiting for quilting. Now I know how to quilt mine!

I had a vitreous detachment about 5 years ago. I woke up in the middle of the night to get a drink and jumped almost out of my pjs because the fireworks (flashes) I saw were totally unexpected.

How exciting to find relatives! After all these years I just recently found a sister for my ggg grandfather through DNA. One of the sister's descendants contacted me and gave me her connecting lineage. My dad always wanted to find more info on his line back in Ireland but a lot of the old records were burned and info is really hard to find for those who were Catholics. My dad is 90 now and in an extended care facility with Parkinson's and I'm not sure he understands the information I tried to relay to him on the phone.

I love your quilt finish. And I bet the recipient will too....what's not to love about soft and inviting colors! a great comfort quilt.
Oh, Pat.....I have a hint of what you are dealing with for the eye. My right eye has the "streaks of greasy goo" across the vision field. What an ordeal to try and see. I actually ordered self threading needles and a needle threader thingy to see if it helped me to anything. I hope the gel mess and the floaters dissolve quickly and leave no residual problem. We are warriors and not wimps .....that is for sure. Stand firm and strong. Hugs.

I love your shabby-chic quilt. Very peaceful and lady like if you ask me. The borders are perfect. So fun that you get to get in touch with a cousin again. Love happy endings. Sorry to hear about your eye. Hope it all gets better soon. Take care. ;^)

The quilt is gorgeous and will certainly be loved! I think everyone of a certain age has some kind of physical problem. It is no fun, but I am thankful that I am doing very well for my age (will turn 77 this month)! Where has the time gone?

Your quilt is beautiful! I had something similar happen a few years ago with my right eye. The piece that broke off was wrapped around the optic nerve, and I described it as looking through a big cheerio. It did go away after several weeks, and now it isn’t visible at all. Annoying and worrisome nonetheless.

Sure enjoy hearing your good news, Pat! Yay for reconnecting with a first cousin! That's quite amazing. One of the many benefits of technology, right? And your quilt finish is glorious! Shabby Chic perfect, and I am sure the recipient will love it. You put so much of yourself in this quilt, I wonder that you can part with it. Have to tell you that my favorite photos of quilts you share are those hung from your clothes line. As for your other news, I'm really sorry about your eye issue. I'm glad you got it checked, and at least learned it's not too serious. Annoying though, I'm sure. I too had a floater for a couple days and know how disconcerting it is. You are SO right: "Getting old isn't for wimps!"

That is so exciting to reconnect with a lost cousin!
I love that quilt--such fresh, pretty colors. Who wouldn't love it?
Sorry to hear about the floaters. Sounds very frustrating, but good to know it should dissolve.

Your "Sherbet Jumble" is fantastic! I love the colors and the name!! And what a lot of wok for a donation quilt. I'm sure it will delight and comfort the recipient!!!
I hope your 'floaters' resolve asap! take care.

Oh! I hope your eye heals quickly. Those floaters can be a real pain. Sometimes I can be reading and something moves in my peripheral vision so I quickly turn my head to see who is there. It's just those darn floaters swimming around. The young woman who will receive this quilt is very lucky.

Luscious colors and a great name for this delightful quilt! Whoever receives it will be wrapped in comfy softness. Take care of those eyes. Isn’t that the truth - the body parts warranty needs to be renewed as we add years.

What a beautiful quilt! I love the soft colors as well as how you quilted it.
I'm sorry to hear about your eye. It sounds uncomfortable and I can imagine it could cause headaches, trying to see through floating strands. I hope it resolves itself quickly!
