An April finish and spring doings

A quick post, because that's the way life goes these days.  First a quilty finish for the camp auction later this year.

We finally had a day dry enough to get outside for a few shots in the early morning sunshine.

I machine quilted a large meander in the colorful blocks and stenciled the outer border.   Then had a lot of fun doing some hand quilting with a gold shade of 12 wt. Aurifil thread outlining the circle appliques and in the setting triangles.  The camera had a difficult time picking up the hand quilting except in close-up shots.

For the backing I used up all the remaining black tone-on-tone fabric and two black/red prints that have languished in the stash for more than 10 years. Never quite knew what to do with them.  All in all, I made a big dent in the bin of black fabrics.  As I age, it's more and more difficult to work with black since I can't see where I'm stitching!

This was a fun finish and I hope someone will like it enough to bid on it at the auction.

This morning my hubby came home with these little feathered fluffs.  For our daughter who hasn't been able to find any chicks in their area this spring.  They're scarce here too.  These are Rhode Island Reds and Sapphire Gems.  Their heat lamp went back on as soon as I snagged these photos as it's quite chilly in the garage.  We'll be babysitting them until Sunday when the family can make the trip to pick them up.

On that note, I'll close for today.  Hopefully back soon with some more quilting and life on the mini-farm!

A very nice finish! Black is the perfect foil to make those colors pop!
I like the way you combined the machine and hand quilting. A really nice effect without stressing the hands and eyes to quilt the whole thing.
Love those little fluffs, but they don't stay little and cute long enough, IMO. :)

Oh, I would lay my money down on this one! It's so well done and the colours so rich and fun. Love the tiny little stop border made with the same fabric as the binding. Your hand-stitches are so even and perfect. You did an amazing job! Congrats. Enjoy the family this weekend. ;^)

Beautiful quilt! I admire how you mix hand and machine quilting, I plan to try that on a small project, maybe Whatnots.

I thought you were going to have hens yourself. Aren't they so tiny and furry.

Good for you to have put so much time and quality effort into making this pretty quilt! I'm impressed by your machine quilting, and even more so by your hand quilting. You stitch beautifully! I hope the quilt raises lots of money... more than the typical $250 to $300 such a quilt brings at a church event. Be sure to share when it sells for $600... or more! Yay you! The chicks are adorable. Interesting about their unavailability. Bird flu? Something else? I hope your hand-off today goes smoothly. Have a blessed Holy day.

The quilt is terrific. The handquilting in contrasting thread is lovely. I'm sure someone will be thrilled to bid on it.

This quilt is so bright and beautiful. Whoever receives it will surely love it and be encouraged by it. I particularly love that you added the circles. They do so much for the quilt!
Your hand quilting looks beautiful and is a perfect addition to those side triangles.
The peeps are adorable. It's great you were able to find them for your daughter.
