A Finish!

Today's snowstorm provided a perfect day to finish this donation quilt for the family who lost their home to a fire in early January.  Since we're not expecting sunny weather for at least a few days, some indoor photos will have to do.

The quilt finished at about 59x74 inches, a good size for a single bed.

Machine quilted - stitch in the ditch and serpentine stitch throughout.  Hopefully you can see the quilting a bit better in the following photos.

Though probably not visible in the photos, there was not enough of the stop border fabric to complete the binding, so I alternated strips of two similar solids to complete the quilt.

Since the snow is expected to continue through tomorrow, I'm going to allow myself a play date with a pile of orphan blocks, parts and pieces, and see if something develops into a quilt.  In between working on taxes that is.  Maybe February's mini quilt will take precedence, we'll see.

Til next time, wishing you sunny skies and happy quilting!

It's a lovely quilt, very spring like and hopeful. How kind you are! I wish them peaceful nights under this lovely quilt.
You are getting a LOT of snow! I think this time we are only to get rain, but I still have 2 feet of snow on my deck and big drifts elsewhere. Be safe, stay warm. I wish that bad boy Sammy would be indoors with you!

You did an awesome quilt in a very short time. Sometimes, donation quilts quickly done are bland. Not this one. Kudos to you for making an interesting and lovely quilt. Love the play of dark and light too. ;^)

What a beautiful quilt. Someone will love it!
I love snow but I know some people don't. At the very least, it gives us great days to stay in and quilt. Enjoy!

Your pretty in pink (but I see some black, too, don't I?) is such a lovely quilt. How wonderful of you to make such a thoughtful donation to this family. I know they will cherish this gift.

It’s just beautiful, Pat. Great idea with the binding. It actually look better than if you’d had just one color. It reminds me of flowers growing on a trellis. Just lovely.

Your eyes are right, there is the tiniest bit of black in a couple of the layer cake pieces as well as the border fabric! A lot more very dark navy blue though. Thanks for visiting as always!

Such a pretty quilt. You've made a real charmer. I'm sure the family will be thrilled. I agree with Nancy about loving the snow. I always feel a little sad when this winter season comes to an end.

How nice of you to jump up to make and finish a quilt for a family in need. That's so sad! I'm sure they'll have many needs in the months ahead. What you've made is lovely, and will surely be a bright spot in their days. Sorry you've had lots of snow. If it makes you feel any better, we've had rain, cool temps, and gloomy skies here in Central Florida.
